Woodcock Nature Preserve

2019 – Present | 25 acres | ~1,000 chestnuts + 1,000 pawpaws

Our oldest and largest farm, established through a partnership with Woodcock Nature Preserve. Beginning in 2019, the orchard was planted over a series of community volunteer weekends, and today it remains the heart of SOCC’s work.

Highlights:

  • ~500 grafted pawpaws, with ongoing grafting each year.

  • Alley crops: garlic, wheat, and hazelnut.

  • Integrated into a 5K hiking trail at Woodcock, allowing visitors to walk directly through the orchard.

Sugar Bush

2021 – Present | ~500 culinary chestnuts and 300 timberform chestnuts

This client project transformed land recently cleared of pine forest into a productive orchard system. At Sugarbush Valley, chestnuts were planted in both forestry and orchard-style layouts, demonstrating flexibility in agroforestry design. SOCC has now taken on a leasehold and manages this farm directly.

Highlights:

  • Black Locust for fence posts within row

  • A solar-powered water pump system irrigates both fields — showcasing sustainable infrastructure for perennial crops.

Washington Road

2026 – Present | Future hub & processing facility

Our newest farm, designed as both a production orchard and the future operations hub of SOCC. Washington Road will not only expand our plantings but also centralize processing and distribution to Albany, Ohio.

Planned Features:

  • Farm House and tiny houses

  • Porcini-inoculated chestnuts (new research + perennial crop integration).

  • Christmas trees as an alley crop.

  • A processing facility for chestnuts, pawpaws, and other crops, serving as the company’s main post-harvest hub.
